Location Description
Semmelweisklinik, Hockegasse 37, 1180 Wien

PARALLEL VIENNA presents young and emerging as well as established artistic practices and brings together art initiatives of all kinds - art associations, galleries, project spaces, off-spaces and artists' spaces - both Austrian and international, under one roof.

In this way, it connects local artistic creation with international trends and contributes to building networks and promoting exchange between artists, curators, collectors and exhibition visitors. The fair remains true to its approach of using temporarily vacant buildings as a presentation platform for contemporary art.170 rooms of the former maternity clinic and hospital school will be occupied by more than 600 artistic positions. In addition, an extensive performance program will again be presented outside the clinic.

On the part of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, the following departments of the Institute of Fine Arts will participate:

"At this year's Parallel, Daniel Richter's Department of Extended Painterly Space presents a diverse field of positions from painting as well as at the interface with other media. What the works have in common, apart from all the differences in artistic approach, is the questioning of the medium of painting for its contemporaneity as well as the self-imposed task of overcoming its (apparent) limitations." Marc Henry

Contextual painting - Despina Stokou

with Vava, Ali Zare, Amanda Jahn, Luiza Furtado, Paul Prothesis, Ziliia Kanchurina

Contextual Painting Studio presents its group exhibition, framing a cross-cultural dialogue upon artistic research and multimedia practices. The artworks merge as a sutured organism, tensioning the room's architectural narrative. It grows on visceral clashes, to manifest as form, texture, and color. The curation is born from poetry fragments written collectively by Vava, Ali, Amanda, Luiza, Ziliia, and Paul in their mother languages. While reflecting on the group's creative resonance through this temporary occupation.

Video and video installation - Dorit Margreiter

MOVING: I’m walking onto a brick to be found in hidden objects, live more intensely, become a stranger against stillness - autonomy. More meaning to throw us back. Regen. I intensely care as they rush in my palms but things last. Stay still. Don’t step out of line. I stop.
