Etching is fascinating, first and foremost due to the material itself and the results achieved by using the material. The process of burnishing and polishing the plates conveys the romantic aura of the traditional crafts of former times; they force the artist to reflect; his mind is liberated through concentrated manual work. This freedom from thought enables the artist to realise his vision, which is built on the material and its properties. It is a condensation of the dialectic process, which will only be successful if he seeks to attain what is essential and works on it. It is an intellectual process and, at the same time, it is a meditation, a mystic trance, comparable to shamanist immersion in ecstasy - appropriate to the expansiveness of the artist´s creative process.
