Memento Mori

This year, sculptural installations and video works by Severin Standhartinger and Fiona Prohaska, both students at the University of Art and Design Linz (Experimental Design and raum&designstrategien), and by Benjamin Ben Amotz and Daphne von Schrader, students at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (Art and Intervention), can be seen in the church space and crypt of the Ursulinenkirche in Linz. As part of the memento mori series, the young artists thematise death and transience, becoming and passing away in the context of man and nature.

The artistic works were created in reflection of current debates surrounding global challenges such as climate change and the daily stream of alarming news about worldwide crises. The exhibition format is the result of a co-operation between the University of Arts and the Diocese of Linz. The show in the sacred spaces was curated by Martina Gelsinger from the Department of Art and Culture of the Diocese of Linz and Anja Ellenberger from the University of Art and Design Linz in collaboration with Judith Huemer from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
