BMWKMS | Studios Wattgasse
As part of its arts funding program, the Federal Ministry of Housing, Arts, Culture, Media, and Sport (BMWKMS) is offering 11 studio spaces to artists working in the fields of visual arts, photography, or media art.
The 11 studios available for lease range in size from 44 to 65 square meters and are located on the 4th floor at Wattgasse 56, 60, 1170 Vienna.
Target group
Eligible to apply are all artists working in the fields of visual arts, photography, and media art who are Austrian citizens or have been permanently resident in Austria for at least three years (as evidenced by an extract from the population register). In the selection process, particular attention will be paid to the proportion of female artists in the studios.
Students are not eligible to apply.
Duration and costs
The studios will be made available to the artists on a temporary basis for a period of 6 years (with no option to extend), tentatively from 1 February 2027, to 31 December 2032.
Rent and operating costs are covered by the Ministry; however, studio users are responsible for paying their own electricity and heating costs (up to approximately 120 euros per month).
The studios are not intended for residential use under any circumstances; they are to be used exclusively as workspaces. Failure to use the studio or using it solely as a storage space will result in the termination of the usage agreement. The agreement will also be terminated if the artists fail to pay their electricity and heating bills on time.
