Expanded Artistic Research Network | Harvesting Otherwise

The Expanded Artistic Research Network (EARN) invites artistic research proposals exploring reciprocity, ancestral knowledge, ecology, care, and non-extractive practices through workshops, storytelling, film & collective formats. The conference will take place 4–6 November 2026 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

The multi-format gathering explores harvest not only as an agrarian cycle, but as a conceptual and methodological framework for artistic research. Contributions exploring how knowledge is cultivated, shared, and regenerated through relational, place-based, and non-extractive practices across communities, ecologies, and generations are welcome.

Inspired by ritual, ancestral, and collective practices, from African and Latin American knowledge systems to contemporary approaches such as lumbung, the organizers ask how artistic research might “harvest otherwise” through reciprocity, stewardship, situated knowledge, and attentiveness to both human and more-than-human worlds.

The gathering includes storytelling circles, panels, listening sessions, film screenings, workshops, reflective spaces, and call-and-response formats.
