BMWKMS | Residency Grants Abroad for artists in the fields of Fine Arts, Photography, and Media Art
The Federal Ministry for Housing, Art, Culture, Media and Sport is inviting applications for 2028 international studio grants for artists in Accra, Helsinki, London, New York, Paris, Seoul, Tokyo and Vilnius. The aim of the funding is to enable artists to spend a period of time in a studio abroad in order to realize artistic projects within an international context and to advance their careers outside Austria by building networks.
Target group
- Artists who hold Austrian citizenship or are permanently resident in Austria (as evidenced by their most recent registration certificate) are eligible to apply.
-
Students are not eligible to apply. Anyone who is enrolled at a university or university of applied sciences at the time of application is excluded from applying.
- Artists who have been awarded a different studio abroad or a long-term federal grant (6 months or longer) for the year 2028 cannot be considered for another grant at the same time.
- It is not possible to reapply for a studio for which a residency has already been granted at an earlier date.
- Applicants are expected to be willing to engage with and respect the country’s culture, way of life and customs.
Consideration of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is encouraged.
The Grant
The allocation of the studios – which are made available to individual artists for 2, 3 or 4 months, depending on the studio’s location – is accompanied by a monthly grant of 2,000 euros. Travel expenses must be covered individually from this amount.
