Platz nehmen #4: Holding the Line: European Universities under Pressure
Solidarity walk against repression at universities.
The event is a solidarity action for universities in countries such as the Serbia, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland, which are suffering repressions due to anti-democratic political power structures.
In a guided city tour starting at Schillerplatz, invited guests will visit places in the surrounding area of the academy that have a connection to the history of one of the affected countries. In public space, a joint discourse on restrictions on freedom of expression, hostility toward sciences and arts and targeted interventions in the autonomy of universities will be initiated, and appropriate resistance scenarios will be discussed.
The route will take us to Maria-Theresien-Platz, to the Triton and Nymph Fountains in the Volksgarten, the monument to Emperor Franz I, and on to the Parliament.
With statements and contributions from international guests from affected universities in the Serbia, Slovakia, Hungary, and Poland.
