The Erwin Schrödinger Fellowships are intended for young and highly qualified scientists of any discipline and seek to enable young scholars to gain experience abroad during the postdoc-phase.

Target group

Young and especially highly qualified scientists of any discipline

Goals

  • Promotion of scientific work at leading foreign research institutions; gaining experience abroad during the postdoc-phase
  • facilitation of access to new scientific areas, methods, procedures and techniques so as to contribute - following return to Austria - to the further development of science in Austria

Requirements

  • completed doctoral studies
  • international scientific publications
  • invitation from the foreign research institution
  • If a return phase is requested: confirmation of the Austrian research institution

Length

Fellowship abroad: 10 to 24 months; return phase: max. 12 months (depends on the duration of the fellowship abroad)

Level

  • Fellowship abroad (tax free): 34,100 € to 46,400 € per year (depends on the destination)
  • for the return phase: personnel costs of 72,630 € per year (contract of employment) and project specific costs up to 12,000 € per year
