The course will take place as a block-format open workshop and offers the opportunity to explore the Risograph as an artistic and experimental printing process through hands-on practice. The starting point will be analogue drawings and collages on the theme of animals. Vienna-based illustrator Tim Maresch (www.mareschsturm.com) will also be visiting us at the workshop. The resulting motifs will then be prepared for Risograph printing and produced using a two-colour printing process. By combining different colours, overlays and printing effects, participants will create visually striking, contemporary prints with a distinctive visual character. The Risograph is a fast, resource-efficient stencil printing process that sits somewhere between screen printing and photocopying. Each colour is applied using a separate printing drum, allowing colours to be designed and layered independently. Characteristic features include vibrant spot colours, subtle irregularities, overprinting and the distinctive tactile quality of the prints. These small variations make the Riso a particularly exciting medium for experimental and serial artistic production. The workshop focuses on playful experimentation with colour, form, layering, reproduction and variation. The individual works will ultimately be brought together to create a collective “Crazy Zoo”, which will be presented as part of the Rundgang. The course thus combines analogue artistic production with an experimental technical printing process and introduces participants to the basic principles and practical use of the Risograph.
