Digital sovereignty is a European leitmotif. What does this concept entail and how can one relate it to national narratives, territorial claims, hegemony and urban concerns? This lecture examines different dimensions of the concept of digital sovereignty and raises profound questions of democratic digitalization.

Elizabeth Calderón Lüning is associate researcher at the Weizenbaum Institute - the German Internet Institute. In the research group "Inequality and digital sovereignty" she focuses on democratic deliberation of digital policy within the urban context and the notion of digital sovereignty as the individual and collective freedom and right to actively partake in the shaping of digital life worlds. As co-founder of the "Digital City Alliance - Berlin" she seeks to ensure a fairer and more equitable city for city dwellers in the digital age.
