The program actively promotes artists and gives them publicity. subnetAIR counteracts the bottleneck in production and presentation rooms and, with the provision of infrastructure and know-how in our field of activity, reduces barriers in favor of realizing sound project ideas.

Subnet provides a working budget (1000 €), space and infrastructure as well as know-how in media art projects with the focus on physical computing, hardware-hacking and tinkering.

Since 2016, the Center for Human Computer Interaction (HCI) at University of Salzburg ( https://hci.sbg.ac.at/) joined forces with subnetAIR. subnetAIRs can freely access the HCI infrastructure. The HCI also provides subnetAIRs with a lively environment filled with technology-enthusiasts, critical thinkers, exotic human-machine interfaces and plenty of gear and space to work on projects as well as present them to audiences, in the very city center.

When: 2019 – up to 6 weeks around Feb-July, Sep-Nov.

Where: subnet.at, Salzburg, Austria

How much: 1000 € for each subnetAIR slot

Application: limited to three pages; must include: concept, resumé, reference projects, preferred time frame

Contact: office@subnet.at

subnetAIR – Process:

At the beginning of each residency artists present themselves during a “Meet the artist” event. At the end of each residency all artists need to provide documentation material and will present their progress. Further project presentations will be discussed individually.

About the Center for HCI:

The Center for Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) is an interdisciplinary research group within the Department of Computer Sciences at the University of Salzburg. Established in 2005 as research unit at the former ICT&S Center, currently approx. 40 researchers study the interplay between humans and computers in order to enable desired interactions and explore desirable futures“ (Read more: hci.sbg.ac.at). subnetAIRs will have the great possibility to use their facilities and network with local researches.
