Shoe Shining Workshop with Lucía Ugena
A reading and shoe polishing workshop as a collective activation of a sculptural piece.
This workshop is an invitation to read through the materiality and gestures involved in the act of shoe polishing. At the surface of the shoe, the brushstrokes of the polisher become invisible. Shining registers a history of labour that stretches from public and domestic spaces to the extensions of private businesses or the structure of the military. In the context of this workshop, the care of the shoes is thought as a pictorial act directed to the reproduction of life. The elements that articulate the practice will serve us as different entry points or keywords to forms of written production. Participants are invited to engage with a variety of settings with which to collectively negotiate meaning.
Please, bring leather shoes you’d like to shine. Polishers, brushes and cloth will be provided.
