Ju Aichinger
Ju Aichinger is mentee of Barbara Kapusta
Ju Aichinger, * 1995 in Bad Ischl, lives and works in Vienna. As a visual artist, their interdisciplinary practice encompasses installation, costume, and painting, with a sculptural engagement with ceramics at its core. Positioned between the familiar and abstraction, their works draw on references from queer subculture, pop culture, and everyday fragments. They explore material and immaterial remnants of social trends—traces of collective memory that they archive, transform, and recontextualize. Aichinger’s work examines identity, social narratives, and the relationship between the individual and the collective.
Alongside their artistic practice, Aichinger designs stage sets, visuals, and costumes, including hold yr ache 2 my ache (TQW, 2024) and Lapse and the Scarlet Sun by Luca Bonamore & Lau Lukkarila (ImPulsTanz, 2023). Their recent work to be or not to be (butch) was shown at Parallel Vienna 2025, for which they received the Bildrecht YOUNG ARTIST Award 2025 | RUNNER UP. The installation is currently on view at the Queer Museum Vienna. Ju Aichinger is a co-founder of Verein Hufe (formerly Kollektiv Zirkusgasse), through which they co-curated the project space Zirkusgasse 38 for two years.
