Gender & Space // Yuan-Chi Chang: Commoning in Practice
Commoning in Practice is a short story collection with illustrations involving people with diverse backgrounds understanding the concept of the Commons. Through commons, we rise in solidarity together.
Commoning in Practice aims to provide a more accessible alternative to academic feminist literature. The project started with stories surrounding the topic of the Commons shared by queer feminist storytellers in private conversations, the circle of stories grew larger and larger over time and six of them were picked to be further developed.
Some stories are fiction, inspired by bits and pieces of my personal life, others are real life stories that happened to friends or family members. Some tackle heavier topics, others are reassuring and some might trigger deep insecurities. Each of them holds different qualities in them, in hopes to invite viewers to recognize the value of the Commons and to reflect on their own lived experiences beyond the exhibition.
