The Equal Opportunities Team (AfG) cordially invites everyone to cast their (symbolic) vote in the Vienna Pass-Egal-Election organized by SOS Mitmensch!

In the 2025 Vienna municipal and state elections, more than 610,000 people living in Vienna will not have the right to vote. This means that more than one in three people of voting age living in Vienna are excluded from voting due to their citizenship. But democracy thrives on participation, not exclusion!

In this election, everyone has the opportunity to symbolically cast their vote – regardless of passport or origin.
Solidarity votes from people with Austrian citizenship are warmly welcome.

The advertising poster for the Vienna Pass-Egal Election was designed by Stefanie Weber as part of an internal academy student competition. Weber gives an insight into her inspiration and motivation to create her winning entry:

"
For me, voting is the privilege of having an active voice and keeping democracy alive. While some are not allowed to vote, it is up to those who can to exercise that privilege. For me, the PASS EGAL WAHL does both - it makes voting possible and it highlights the use of the right to vote. At the beginning of the design process, I decided not to expose the exclusion of those affected and instead focused on a central element of voting: counting. This led to the idea of 'making it count' - a phrase that for me means both receiving and giving a vote.
The classic tally sheet as the central visual element represents the counting of votes, but also the visualisation of voices that would otherwise remain unheard. The slogan 'Hier zählen alle!' ('Everyone counts here') also emphasises this multiple meaning as an appeal to eligible voters. After all, they have a say in determining which political forces will be shaping the right to vote in the future."

Vienna Passport-Egal Election:
SOS Mitmensch, together with partners, has been organizing "Pass-Egal-Wahlen" (translated: no-matter-what-passport elections) in advance of federal and state elections since 2013.

To conclude the Vienna Pass-Egal election, a large democracy festival will take place on Wednesday, April 23, at Yppenplatz!
