Bettina M. Busse is an art historian and curator at the Bank Austria Kunstforum Wien.
Prior to this, she worked for many years as a curator at the MAK – Museum of Applied Arts/Contemporary Art in Vienna. She has curated numerous exhibitions on modern and contemporary art, including shows dedicated to Joseph Beuys, Anish Kapoor, Jannis Kounellis, and Jenny Holzer. Notable projects she curated at the Kunstforum Wien include The Cindy Sherman Effect: Identity and Transformation in Contemporary Art (2020), Rebecca Horn (2021), and David Hockney – Insights (2022), as well as interdisciplinary projects such as Rebecca Saunders – Rockaby (2024). In addition, she is committed to presenting emerging contemporary positions, with exhibitions featuring Hanakam & Schuller, Kay Walkowiak, and Death and the Maiden – a showcase of contemporary female artists from Ukraine.
In 2003, Bettina M. Busse co-curated the Austrian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (Bruno Gironcoli), together with Kasper König. She is co-founder and director of the Bruno Gironcoli Estate. Currently, she is working on the most comprehensive retrospective of Marina Abramovic's work to date, which will be presented at the Albertina Modern in Vienna in 2025. She is also the author and editor of numerous texts and publications.
