The library at the IKL (Institute for the Education in the Arts) brings together all sub-libraries of the teaching subjects and their educational science basics at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. The library, which is freely accessible to all faculty, staff and students during the opening hours of the institute building and allows them to check in, check out and return media autonomously, was designed by Andreas Ferus, Michael Herbst, and Peter Spitaler. The reading room provides books, recourse reserves and working spaces for 18 to 24 students in a quiet atmosphere. Rooms and furnishings are subject to the consistent interior design of IKL (Michael Herbst) and follow a functional design philosophy.

Andreas Ferus is head of the University Library of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and teaches in the field of library and information sciences.

Michael Herbst is an associate university professor at the Institute for Education in the Arts and teaches technology and design, including design, product and consumption and production technologies. He has been in charge of the spatial development and design of the institute since 1995.

Peter Spitaler teaches metal and plastic production techniques, product / design / consumption and digital 3D production at the Institute for Education in the Arts.
