Around 1990, the university exhibition system at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna underwent a significant upheaval, closely linked to the pioneering Institute for Contemporary Art. In this context, a new way of exhibiting emerged that was reflexive, resistant and characterized by performative practices. This period also saw a rebellion against the autocratic exhibition practices of the professors in charge of the so-called master classes. Based on selected examples developed around 1990, the exhibition project examines strategies of showing in relation to artistic teaching up to the present day.
