New INTK project funded by Fondazione Zegna

Every year, the Italian "Fondazione Zegna" (https://founderscholarship.fondazionezegna.org/en/) offers scholarships to a restricted number of exceptionally promising candidates to undertake a course of study or research abroad.

This year, a scholarship for the Ph.D. student Riccardo Punis was obtained through a multi-disciplinary research project written by the Institute for Natural Sciences and Technology in the Arts, of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (Dr. Valentina Pintus & Dr. Federica Cappa) and the University of Padua, Italy (Prof. Dr. Alfonso  Zoleo, Department of Chemical Sciences - DiSC)

The approved project will be based on the implementation and development of a new and innovative multi-analytical methodology based on the combination of classic routine techniques in the field of cultural heritage (UV -Vis, IR, Raman, SEM, etc.) with (i) electron spin resonance spectroscopy (ESR) and (ii) thermally assisted hydrolysis and methylation technique with pyrolysis gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (THM-Py -GC/MS) including an advanced quantitative procedure for the study of free and bound fatty acids.
