Memorial Machtverkettungen

The temporary memorial Machtverkettungen, designed by Duha Samir, Student at the Institute for Art and Architecture, has been unveiled on Karlsplatz as part of the Feminist Fight Day 2024 on March 8th. The memorial will be on display until August, 29, 2024.

The sculpture Machtverkettungen designed by Duha Samir was created as part of "Stop Femi(ni)zide - action against systemic murders" by the theater collective Hybrid. The collective based the overall project on the pyramid of violence in order to make the causes of gender-specific violence visible. “Power Chains” illustrates the pyramid of violence and addresses the three pillars of violence. Its materiality is a reminder of the entrenched, stagnant patriarchal power system that is deeply rooted in our society and also points to the political complicity and failure of political systems and institutions to combat violence against women* and femi(ni)cides. These often invisible mechanisms of gender-based violence are visualized by the memorial by artists Duha Samir & Paul Papalecca on Karlsplatz.

Location: Underground entrance of the passage to Resselpark, opposite the Joseph Ressel memorial, barrier-free access

The sculpture is part of the SHIFT project "Stop Femi(ni)zide - Action against Systemic Murders".
