FWF | Erwin Schrödinger Fellowships including a return phase
The Erwin Schrödinger Fellowships are intended for young and highly qualified scientists of any discipline and seek to enable young scholars to gain experience abroad during the postdoc-phase.

Goals
- Promotion of scientific work at leading foreign research institutions; gaining experience abroad during the postdoc-phase
- facilitation of access to new scientific areas, methods, procedures and techniques so as to contribute - following return to Austria - to the further development of science in Austria
Requirements
- completed doctoral studies
- international scientific publications
- invitation from the foreign research institution
- If a return phase is requested: confirmation of the Austrian research institution
Duration
Fellowship abroad: 10–24 months; return phase: max. 12 months (depends on the duration of the fellowship abroad)
Funding amount
- Variable basic fellowship for principal investigators (fellowship rates depend on country)
- Allowance of 300 euros per month available for career-development measures
- Where applicable: Principal investigator’s salary (current senior postdoc rate of the FWF) and project-specific costs (flat rate) depending on the duration of the return phase (maximum 15,000 euros)
