Berthold Ecker | Curator Wien Museum

Berthold Ecker is mentor of Pia Mayrwöger

Born on June 22, 1961 in Linz. Married, one son. Studies of history of art and ethnology at the University of Vienna, Mag. Dr. phil. 1995 Final degree with a master thesis about the Viennese painter Leopold Birstinger (1903–1983). Since 1991 employed at the Department for Cultural Affairs of the City of Vienna, section Fine Arts. Responsibility of the collection of contemporary art, the largest collection of that kind in Austria (at the moment approx. 35,000 objects), including its reorganisation. 1998 formation of the Museum auf Abruf, later MUSA Museum Startgalerie Artothek. Since 2003 Head of the Division of Fine Arts of the Department for Cultural Affairs of the City of Vienna. Together with Bernhard Denscher foundation of the European Month of Photography Vienna.

Since 2007 head of MUSA Museum Startgalerie Artothek (Felderstraße 6-8, 1010 Vienna, www.musa.at), the centre for contemporary photography of the Department for Fine Arts of the City of Vienna. Conception and organisation of numerous exhibitions in Austria and abroad. Diverse essays for catalogues and scientific publications. Since 2018 Curator for Contemporary Art at the Wien Museum.
