Marianne Vlaschits | Artist

Marianne Vlaschits is mentor of Alina Sokolova

Marianne Vlaschits, born 1983, lives and works in Vienna. She studied fine arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the Slade School of Art London. She is primarily concerned with the media of painting and installation. Currently she is interested in outer space as an utopian place of longing and its representation in science and art. She explores the reflection of cosmic phenomena in the human body and often uses narratives from new wave science fiction literature to connect these two poles.

Marianne Vlaschits' work has been shown internationally and institutionally, for example at Kunstwerke Berlin, Kunsthalle Wien, and Watermill Center, New York. Recent exhibitions include Orbs and Awe, L'INCONNUE, New York 2022; Wells of Wisdoms, Meet Factory, Prague 2022; Auroras, Galerie Sophia Vonier, Salzburg 2021; Contrology, Kunstraum Riehen, Basel 2021; A Body That Lasts, Galerie 5020 Salzburg; A Construction Side of Extraordinary Feelings, The Breeder Gallery, Athens 2020; The Magnetic Spell, Suzie Shride, Vienna 2020; Stone Telling, Kunstraum NÖ, 2019 Vienna.

She has received numerous awards and grants for her work, including the Bildrecht Prize 2020, an artist-in-residency at the Grimm Museum Berlin, and a studio grant from the Federal Government of Austria.
