The following position at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is advertised:

University professorship
in accordance with § 98 Austrian University Act 2002 (Universitätsgesetz 2002) at the Institute for Conservation-Restoration at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. This professorship is offered full time for a period of five years starting 1 October 2023.

The education at the Institute for Conservation-Restoration at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna combines theory and practice of conservation-restoration of cultural assets in its broadest spectrum possible. We work in close cooperation with the Academy's artistic as well as cultural and natural science institutes and with a view to the Academy's strategic focus on sustainability and decolonization.

Applicants are expected to have expertise in the conservation-restoration of mounted and unmounted wooden objects with refined and polychrome surfaces. The strategic goal of the institute is to further develop the department in the direction of conservation-restoration of listed cultural assets. Therefore, expertise in the treatment of historical ensembles as well as contemporary room furnishings is required as well.

Conditions of employment
•    a completed university degree in conservation-restauration with doctorate or proof of equivalent scientific aptitude   
•    leadership experience and management skills: planning, organizational, and management skills to be demonstrated, for example, through the management of major conservation and research projects
•    experience in research-related – also interdisciplinary – collaboration with museums, collections and in the field of historic preservation
•    experience at an international level in practical conservation-restoration, in organizing congresses and workshops, and in managing research projects and soliciting external funding
•    several years of teaching experience, preferably in higher education, ability and knowledge to implement innovative and forward-looking methods in teaching and research
•    broad knowledge of material science, use of artistic materials and historical technologies with a focus on wood
•    reflective, mediating and critical competence in the fields of methodology and documentation
•    ability to work in a team, to deal with conflicts and communicative skills in order to implement solutions together and by division of labor
•    willingness to take on organizational tasks, both in academic self-administration (e.g. in committees) and in matters of study operations
•    very good knowledge of German and good knowledge of English; lectures are held in German.

•    willingness to choose Vienna as your center of life
The teaching commitment includes individual artistic lessons (project supervision) of 16 hours per week in the central artistic subject Conservation-Restoration.

The monthly gross salary according to the collective agreement for university employees in salary group A1 is currently Euro 5.437,7. The willingness to pay above collective agreement – depending on qualification profile – is given.
