New professor for Theory and Mediation of Contemporary Art as of 1.3.2026: Kathrin Rottmann

Kathrin Rottmann is an art historian specializing in modern and contemporary art. During the summer semester of 2026, she will hold a visiting professorship in the Theory and Communication of Contemporary Art at the Institute for Art and Cultural Studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Her research interests include production and production conditions in art, materials and objects, the history and theory of photography and film, as well as feminist and gender theories. Using a cultural studies and transdisciplinary approach, she analyzes art within its various contexts. Her research explores the production conditions under which art is conceived and produced, how it is exhibited and communicated, and its impact on society.
