Millions of Ukrainians have been forced to leave their homes due to the war. Kyiv-based practice balbek bureau has analyzed the global experience in the development, construction and maintenance of temporary housing. Building on this experience, Slava Balbek and his team developed the RE:Ukraine Housing system for internally displaced persons.

To help residents of Ukrainian villages restore their homes damaged or destroyed in devastating Russian attacks, balbek bureau launched the RE:Ukraine Village project. Architects develop a design code for each affected region considering local architectural features and offering various layouts, materials, roof shapes, window frames, and color schemes to choose from when (re)building a house.

Slava Balbek is a Ukrainian architect and founder CEO of balbek bureau global architecture and interior design studio. He is a project supervisor, architect at RE:Ukraine System and RE:Ukraine Monuments, founder of propro furniture brand and creator of the SIDAA initiative aimed at Social Impact Design and Architecture. His work has received multiple international awards and is published in numerous reference editions and periodicals worldwide.
