Lecture by Götz Bury as part of the IBK Lecture Series 2023, organized by the Metalworking Workshop.

Götz Bury found his entry into the world of miracles through a forgotten book by the Baroque preacher Abraham a Sancta Clara. The title, reminiscent of concrete poetry, of the work published in 1685 is Gack, Gack, Gack A Ga. In it the once world-famous miracle of the star eggs of Taxa is described. Over the years, Götz Bury develops his own artistic cosmos from the reading, which he regularly stretches out above the audience in the form of installations, performances and sound. At first glance, the structure is decidedly richly ornamented, extremely detailed and exuberant, a form of aesthetics that clearly runs counter to today's notions of design. However, the effort is justified in order to create the right mood. By taking up elements of faith, superstition and the feudal state alongside this, Bury strikes a chord with audiences in Austria and southern Germany in particular, who tend to be pre-disposed to religion in this country.
In addition, friends of good craftsmanship will find plenty of points of contact. Since practically no new material is used, but only relics from kitchens, large kitchens and households, one may feel reminded of recycling, even though Bury sees his way of designing primarily as a form of quoting, which forms its own design level.
