In two years of research work, "Model House - Mapping Transcultural
Modernisms" developed a web platform that seeks to unravel the
transnational and transcultural relations between a number of case studies of modernist architecture outside of Europe in the 1950s and 1960s. In doing this, the continuities and discontinuities between colonialism and decolonization within the discourse surrounding modern architecture, as well as new actors and alliances, become visible. Within the team, mapping was employed as a praxis to explore decentralized and collaborative modes of producing knowledge in art and cultural studies. A product of this process is the "Chart of Habitat," which sets the research team's insights in relation to the unfinished "Charter of Habitat" from the final CIAM congresses in the late 1950s, which was one of the most instrumental international organs of modern architecture between 1928 and 1960.
