The next Graduate Conference takes place on the 16th of June, 2014 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, starting at 10 a.m.

The Graduate Conferences take place twice a year. Whereas the conference in January has workshop character, the conference in June presents the possibility to five or six PhD-students, who find themselves in the finalizing stage of their PhD , to hold a public talk about their dissertation or an aspect of it. Every presenter has a 25-minutes time slot for the talk (incl. dias, videos etc.) and the same amount of time for the following discussion. Each talk will be moderated by a colleague of the Academy of Fine Arts who is not supervising the respective PhD-student. The presentations can be held in German or English, following the request of the presenter. The conference will take place all-day.

The Graduate Conferences aim at a stronger visibility and integration of the PhD-students at the Academy of Fine Arts and the furthering of the exchange and networking among the PhD-students themselves and with the researchers and artists at the Academy. Furthermore, the Graduate Conferences provide an essential part in enhancing the discussion of PhD projects. Debates between disciplines, which are not part of every-day academic life, are also more than desired.

Please hand in:

  • Title of the PhD
  • Abstract of the presentation (max. 2.000 characters, incl. blanks)
  • Short biography
  • Short recommendation of your supervisor (one to two sentences are sufficient)
  • Short information about the starting date and the expected finalization date of your PhD
  • Favoured language of the presentation (English or German)
  • Contact details / email-adress

The extended deadline for the submission of the documents is 23 th of April, 2014 . Please send your documents - as one PDF-document except for the recommendation of your supervisor - to v.schwediauer@akbild.ac.at .

The preparation group of the Graduate Conference will choose about six talks.

PhD-students who travel from abroad can apply for ÖH travel reimbursement.
