  • Fashion and the Far Right: The New Complexity in Style

    NeoFashFarRight is an in-depth fashion studies research that investigates the current role of fashion for the far right in Europe and the US. At the “Lange Nacht der Forschung” Teresa Fischer (MA, PraeDoc) will give a short introduction to the project and present first research results. Visitors will also have the chance of listening into “Style Struggles”, our freshly produced podcast series.

    Bookshop, discourse platform, political centre, community space: The Hopscotch Reading Room is the first book and reading space in the German-speaking world that, as an intersectional space, helps to make visible groups that have no right to speak, diaspora communities, migrant literature and unpublished political and poetic thoughts.

  • Lange Nacht der Forschung 2024

    The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna presents current research projects from the natural sciences and technologies in art, artistic research as well as conservation and restoration in the historic Theophil Hansen building on Schillerplatz. The Paintings Gallery is open from 7 to 10 p.m. and admission is free.

  • Die Heilige Sippe from Lucas Cranach d. Ä. - Insight into a restoration project at the Gemäldegalerie

    Die heilige Sippe from Lucas Cranach d. Ä. (um 1510/1512) is one of the highlights of the Paintings Gallery collection. With the portraits of the artist and his family in the garb of the holy clan, the painting is also a major work in Cranach's oeuvre. We explain the conservation challenges of the panel painting and take a look beneath the paint layer using infrared reflectography.

  • D-Arts - Impulse lecture - Diversity in the Austrian cultural landscape?

    As a project co-operation partner of the exhibition project Soundscapes of Intersectional Encounters: Exploring Identity Through Sound, D/Arts is an important contemporary input provider at a local level. The exchange between the academy, as a generator of knowledge, other cultural organisations and groups that are not at the assumed centre of a cultural landscape is exciting and will be discussed here.

  • Change of perspective. One object, three perspectives

    Time has left its mark on a drawing by an unknown artist. We look at the drawing from three different scientific perspectives: a restorer, an art historian and a chemist jointly reflect on the significance and preservation of this unique work of art.
