Cathrin Pichler Prize

Honouring the thinker, curator, author, and teacher Cathrin Pichler, this prize will be awarded this year for the seventh time to a student or alumni_alumnae of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, who - in the sense of Cathrin Pichler - deals with specific artistic methods and practices as contribution and intervention to scientific discourse. The prize is awarded for an existing artistic-scientific work/project.

The prize is endowed with € 2,500 - sponsored by the City of Vienna. The certificate will be awarded in the frame of a ceremony. The jury consisting of Dorit Margreiter, Anette Baldauf, Verena Kaspar-Eisert, Manuela Ammer, Magdalena Stöger, and Felicitas Thun-Hohenstein, will select the prize winner.

Enrolled students of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and graduates who have completed their studies at the academy in the summer semester 2018* or later can submit their projects. The prize is awarded to an artistic-scientific project. (Qualification work such as diploma, master theses, or dissertation projects are excluded!)

Application period: March 8 until April 21, 2023 | 11:00 am

The following documents must be submitted as PDF files with max. 5 MB and max. 30 pages:

  • Project: documentation of the submitted project
  • Portfolio: documentation of artistic-scientific work
  • CV

    Films, videos, and sound works may be provided via a link (Vimeo, YouTube, incl. password) in the application mask. Submit via the Academy’s submission system

    * Exception due to social reasons: Graduates who have completed their studies before summer semester 2018 may submit by presenting a confirmation of, e.g., years spent for childcare, disease or care for dependents, etc.)
