Statement by the Senate Chairmen's Conference on repressive university policy
The Senate Chairs of Austrian universities declare their solidarity with academics, artists, staff, and students whose universities are affected or threatened by repressive higher education policies. The Senate of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is also involved.

The Theodor-Körner-Preis goes to Nora Severios and Julija Zaharijević
On June 25, 2025, the Theodor Körner Fund awarded its 2024 scholarships at the Education Center of the Vienna Chamber of Labor. Alumna Nora Severios and Julija Zaharijević of the Academy of Fine Arts prevailed and won the prize, which is endowed with 5,000 euros.

The Cathrin Pichler Archive: One of Austria's most beautiful books
The Austrian Booksellers' Association has honored the publication Das Cathrin Pichler Archiv von RPU-Artaud-001 bis DAV-Plakate-029 as one of Austria's 15 most beautiful books of 2024. The publication is the first volume in the Fine Companions series—a collaboration between the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and Mark Pezinger Books for the publication of design-oriented books. -

Anna Orbanic receives the Cathrin-Pichler-Prize 2025
Anna Orbanic will receive the 2025 Cathrin-Pichler-Prize, endowed with 2,500 euros, sponsored by the City of Vienna. The certificate will be awarded during the graduation ceremony on June 27, 2025. -
Erste Bank Art Prizes 2025 awarded to Alina Sokolova and Željka Aleksić
Sokolova and Aleksić are graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Works by the two "emerging artists" were auctioned at the 2025 Academy Auction. Now both have been honored by Erste Bank and DAS WEISSE HAUS.

Klocker Art Prize 2025 to Jakob Lena Knebl and Ashley Hans Scheirl
According to the jury's statement, Knebl and Scheirl pursue "an open, transdisciplinary artistic practice in which genre boundaries are permeable and consciously expanded." The prize, endowed with 20,000 euros, will be presented this fall at the opening of the duo's exhibition in Hall in Tirol. -

What is Anti-Fascist Philosophy? Conference in Weimar
A conference on anti-fascist philosophy will take place at the Friedrich Nietzsche College in Weimar, Germany, from May 8-10, 2025. Rector Johan Hartle will participate and give a lecture on Saturday, May 10, entitled "The Popular Front as Philosophical Condition: Reconsidering Anti-Fascist Strategy."

Erasmus-visit of the Institut Seni in Indonesia
In January 2025, as part of the Erasmus+ project International Credit Mobility, Michael Höpfner (Department of Photography) and Angelina Kratschanova (International Office), together with students from the Academy, visited Institut Seni in Yogyakarta. The students participated in a workshop on The Weight of Water, Time, Matter, Space in Indonesia and Europe and presented their artistic work.

Results of the competition Woallewillkommensind announced
Woallewillkommensind is a competition for ideas for a barrier-free access to the main entrance of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna on Schillerplatz. It was initiated by artist, student, and activist Philipp Muerling with the support of architect Alexander Diem. -
Birgit Jürgenssen Award Winner 2025: Antonia De La Luz Kašik
The 2025 Birgit Jürgenssen Prize, endowed with5,000 euro, will be awarded to artist Antonia De La Luz Kašik. The award ceremony will take place on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, in the Aula of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
