The WWTF's Information and Communication Technology 2026 Call "Digital Humanism" is directed at researchers in Vienna who seek to conduct a cutting-edge interdisciplinary research project between ICT and social sciences / humanities (SSH) that address digital technologies & practices from a human-centered and societal perspective in the field of Digital Humanism. 

Who can apply?

  • An interdisciplinary team of 2–3 researchers encompassing both ICT and SSH as Principal Investigators. 
  • The coordinating PI (PI&C) must be based at a university or research institute in Vienna.
  • Co-PIs may be based outside of Vienna (funding limited to 20% of total budget).
  • Co-PIs with an affiliation to an institution in Lower Austria may apply for up to 49% of the overall budget (Joint Project).

Funding duration and sum

  • 24–48 months
  • A total of 5 million euros has been dedicated to this call. The funding range per project is 350,000–700,000 euros. Additional funding opportunities are available for collaborative projects between scientists in Vienna and Lower Austria.

Submission and important dates

This is a two-stage call. Submission can be made via the WWTF Funding Portal.

  • Short Proposal deadline: 15 April 2026, 14h
  • Full Proposal deadline: 30 August 2026, 14h
  • Expected funding decision: December 2026.
  • Project start: latest June 2027
