Pigment ink printer
The digital laboratory has a pigment ink printer available for teaching and project work. As a service provided by the lab, students also have the opportunity to produce prints with personal support during the lecture period, depending on time availability, at the cost of materials. Independent printing without supervision is not possible. The image files must be created by the students themselves and will not be edited or adjusted by the lab staff.
Printer specifications:
The Canon imagePROGRAF iPF9400 prints with 12 pigment inks on roll paper. Depending on the paper used, the prints are considered ‘lightfast’ and ‘archival’.
Individual print profiles have been created for the print media available in the lab, and printing is only possible on these papers.
If smaller formats are to be printed, several of which can fit on one roll width (e.g. 42 inches wide), these must already be arranged on a 105.4 cm wide document.
Requirements regarding the image file:
The default setting is to print from Adobe Photoshop. If other programmes are required, please clarify this in good time before the printing date.
Image resolution: 200 ppi relative to the print size (please enquire about paper formats and take into account the technically required print margin of 6.5 mm).
File format:Uncompressed (tif, psd) or at least compressed with as little loss as possible (jpg, png).
Mode: RGB, greyscale or, if necessary, bitmap, no CMYK.
When requesting printing dates, please be sure to specify the following:
Number and size of desired prints, paper type and surface.
Appointments for the current week are scheduled on Tuesday afternoons. Requests made after this time will be scheduled for the following week at the earliest.
The prints will remain in the lab until the material costs have been paid. If the printing costs are covered by the Academy, confirmation from the respective person responsible is required and the internal order must be processed.
Please adhere to appointments and arrive on time.
