Courtyard

Students invite you to explore the courtyard in a new way. A diverse program during the Rundgang brings the courtyard to life as a common space. Organized by Gender & Space.

The demand for a shared space at Schillerplatz especially for students of the Academy led to the idea of opening the courtyard which was not used to its best potential and making it accessible as a place for gathering, exchange and diverse uses.

Students of the Gender & Space Studio, together with students from across the Academy, developed an interdisciplinary and participatory mock-up for the courtyard. The space is reimagined as a collectively used space shaped by shared needs and inspired by feminist theory, particularly the work of Silvia Federici.

Accessibility, participatory and interdisciplinary planning, and feminist spatial practice became the project’s guiding principles. The collective work developed through surveys, interviews, open plenary sessions and workshops. The project is conceived as an open-ended process without a fixed final outcome.

For the Rundgang, we present a vision that serves as a foundation for future uses and highlights the courtyard as a shared space of possibility. The program offers art installations, performances, collective readings, embodied practices, screenings, workshops, and a bar with tea and punch. A space for sharing, exchange, and being together – Common Ground.
