  • Forschungsprojekt im Bertoni-Museum

    Im aktuellen Semester widmen sich fünf Studierende des Instituts für Konservierung-Restaurierung (IKR) der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien gemeinsam mit den Lehrenden Simonic Sabina und Lea Huck  der Untersuchung von zwölf Kunststoffskulpturen des Künstlers Wander Bertoni. Die Werke befinden sich im Freilichtmuseum in Winden am See (Burgenland) und sind dort dauerhaft den Witterungsbedingungen ausgesetzt. Beteiligt sind die Studierenden: Shuhei Komatsu, Lilli Kainberger, Laura Wegscheider, Finja Dopheide und Ophelia McBride.

  • Notice for students: CiscoVPN Service discontinued

    The existing Cisco VPN must be discontinued as of April 29 due to critical security vulnerabilities. To access the library’s electronic journal databases, a VPN is no longer required. Access is possible from anywhere using SSO/MFA. To access file shares (institute shares, home drives), Nextcloud will be available starting April 29.

  • Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) Mental Health in Higher Education at the Academy of Fine Arts

    The Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) “Mental Health in Higher Education” in the framework of Erasmus+ took place in Vienna for the second time from April 13 to 17. It brought together 22 lecturers as well as colleagues from administration and counselling working in higher education. 

  • IKA: A Mobility in Malawi

    Since 2023, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna has been cooperating with the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) within the framework of an Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility project.

  • UNIQA Art Prize 2026 – 15,000 euros for Academy graduates

    In cooperation with UNIQA, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is awarding the UNIQA Art Prize for the second time. The EUR 15,000 prize for emerging artists is aimed at graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and was established in 2024.

  • A visit at the new institute location at Kelsenstraße

    The Institute for Conservation and Restoration (IKR) and the Institute for Natural Sciences and Technology in the Arts (INTK) have been located at Kelsenstraße 2, 1030 Vienna, since the beginning of March. Offices for Architecture, the Master in Critical Studies, Art | Research | Support, and one of our research clusters are also located there. Kelsenstraße is not far from a future, new location of the Academy, the "Ballonhalle" – check the website regularly to stay up to date!

  • University Library – Spring 2026 Vacations

    The University Library of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is on vacation. The Main Library and the Branch Library at the Institute for Education in the Arts will be closed from March 30 to April 6, 2026.

  • Admission Examination Bachelor Education in the Arts for the study year 2026/27

    Registration for the entrance examination and uploading the digital portfolio is possible from 23.3. - 20.4.2026 (23:59 h) at calls.akbild.ac.at. Online registration and digital upload of the portfolio is mandatory for everyone.

  • Fashions and Styles on the Move

    Part 3: Windhoek, Otjiwarongo, Swakopmund 2025
    The Fashion and Styles department at the IKL of the Academy of Fine Arts, the Department of Humanities and Arts/ Fashion Design at the University of Namibia, and the Department of Fashion Design at the Faculty of Arts, Design, and Architecture at the University of Johannesburg launched a collaboration in spring 2023 under the banner “Decolonizing Fashion Research, Textile Healing, and Social Justice” with the support of the Academy's International Office and the EU program ERASMUS+ International Credit Mobility.

  • The Academy at the Diagonale 2026

    The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is pleased that numerous works by teachers, former teachers, students, and alumni are once again represented at the Diagonale, the festival of Austrian film, in Graz this year. Congratulations!

  • Birgit Jürgenssen Award Winner 2026: So Young Park

    The 2026 Birgit Jürgenssen Prize, endowed with5,000 euro, will be awarded to artist So Young Park. Congratulations!
    The award ceremony will take place on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, in the Auditorium of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

    The charity auction organized by the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in cooperation with the Dorotheum, which ended on January 23, 2026, and took place for the 12th time this year, raised net proceeds of 170.000 euro, successfully continuing the very good results of the previous year.
