  • TODAY UNTIL 5pm! 10 years academy auction

    The annual online auction of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, in cooperation with Dorotheum Vienna, takes place for the tenth time in 2024. The proceeds will benefit students at the academy who are exposed to difficult living conditions - for example due to their nationality - as well as the initiatives tralalobe and solidarity matters, which support refugees in Austria.

  • University Library – Vacations at the turn of the year 2023/2024

    The University Library of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is on vacation. The Main Library and the Branch Library at the Institute for Education in the Arts will be closed from December 22, 2023 to January 7, 2024. 

    Magazine shelf in the Academy Library with hot off the press titles from the arts and sciences. Among others, the following magazines can be recognized: "Social Semiotics", "Social Text", "Spike", "Weltkunst", "werk, bauen+wohnen", and "wespennest".
  • Award of Excellence for Helena Schmidt

    Helena Schmidt, since this year university assistant (post-doc) at the Institute for Education in the Arts (IKL) - Department of Art and Education, was honored for her dissertation From poor image to poor images. Digital didactics in art education, supervised by Elke Krasny, received the Award for Excellence from the BMBWF.

  • The Academy mourns the death of Wolfgang Hollegha (1929 - 2023)

    From 1972 to 1997, Wolfgang Hollegha was professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, where he last taught a masterclass in painting.

  • Gender Studies Day on 5.12.2023

    Gabriele Possanner was the first woman to receive a doctorate in Austria-Hungary in 1897. 100 years later, the Ministry of Science launches the Gabriele Possanner Prizes for services to the promotion of gender studies. On the 2nd Day of Gender Studies - Tuesday, December 5, 2023, the winners of the 2023 Possanner Prizes will be announced.

  • ORANGE THE WORLD 2023

    This year, the Academy of Fine Arts is showing solidarity with Orange the World by displaying orange flags at the entrance of the main building at Schillerplatz. With this participation, we want to publicly position ourselves against all forms of gender-based violence.

  • The Academy mourns the death of Gerda Sack

    The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna announces with great regret that Gerda Sack, long-time manager of the childrens day care of the Academy has passed away.

  • Bucherer Sponsorship Award for Academy graduate Andrea Zabric

    Andrea Zabric, a graduate of the Master in Critical Studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, received the Bucherer Sponsorship Award, endowed with 5,000 euros. In addition to the award ceremony in the Bucherer Salon at Graben, her work was also on display for three weeks in the windows of the store on the corner of Kärntnerstrasse and Graben.

  • Gabriele Possanner Prize 2023 goes to Elke Krasny

    Prof.in Mag.a Elke Krasny, PhD is a feminist cultural theorist and curator. After a career as a freelance academic, she has been Professor of Art and Education at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna since 2014.

  • Msgr. Otto Mauer Prize 2023 goes to Belinda Kazeem-Kamiński

    As a part of her PhD-in-Practice at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Belinda Kazeem-Kamiński researched the performativity of Blackness in relation to Austrian coloniality. Based on scenes from Austrian history, she is interested in memory that transcends space and time and Black radical imagination.

  • The Academy mourns the death of Alfred Dabsch (1947 - 2023)

    Alfred Dabsch passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023, at the age of 76 after a long and serious illness.

  • Habitat – The Exhibition of the Nominees for the Ö1 Talent Scholarship 2023

    With the support of the WIENER STÄDTISCHE VERSICHERUNGSVEREIN, the Ö1 Talent Scholarship is awarded annually to a young talent from an Austrian art university. This year, for the fourth time, the works of the nominated artists, selected by a jury of nine experts and the audience of the radio station Ö1 via online voting, are presented at the Leopold Museum (10.11.2023 – 14.01.2024).

  • Doppelganger! Jakob Lena Knebl & Ashley Hans Scheirl at Palais de Tokyo, Paris

    The exhibition (Oct. 17, 2023 - Jan. 7, 2024) takes the form of diverse installations, islands of light that invite the public to explore “spaces of desire".
