  • Die Akademie trauert um Ernst Steiner (1935-2024)

    Ernst Steiner verstarb am Samstag, dem 7. September 2024, in Wien. Er studierte von 1955 bis 1959 Malerei an der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien bei S. Pauser und A. P. Gütersloh. Von 1990 bis 2000 war er Lehrbeauftragter in der Meisterklasse Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

  • "Weisser Fleck" - an artistic research project by IKA, INTK, and the Dusts Institute

    Weißer Fleck (Blind Spot) is an innovative artistic research project that is now on display on the façade of a Gemeindebau in Heiligenstadt, Vienna. This project is a long term collaborative effort (since 2021) between the Insitute for Art and Architecture, the Institute of Natural Sciences and Technology in the Arts and The Dusts Institute. It represents an intersection of artistic research, architecture, and geomicrobiology. The project was supported by KÖR and is an integral part of the research at Academy under the title 'Epidermitecture'.

  • "Pass Egal Wahl" at the Academy

    Who would you vote for if you were eligible to vote? In the "Pass Egal Wahl" organized by SOS Mitmensch, everyone can (symbolically) cast their vote - their passport does not matter! There are numerous public polling stations in all federal states, and many schools are also involved in the initiative. As part of this, the Academy of Fine Arts is holding the first university-internal Pass Egal Wahl in Austria.

  • Online Admission to Study in Winter semester 2024 now open

    Online pre-registration is required for the admission to study at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from
    September 2 – October 31, 2024.
    The general student registration is also possible from September 2 – October 31, 2024.

  • Christiana Perschon is the Erste Bank Art Prize winner 2024

    Perschon is a graduate and employee of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

  • Julia Haugeneder receives the Cultural Prize of Lower Austria

    Julia Haugeneder receives the recognition award in the "Visual Arts" category. She is honored for her engagement with the art scene in Lower Austria and her regular participation in exhibitions.

  • Study: Fungi and lichens pose deadly threat to 5,000-year-old rock art

    Biological processes contribute to the erosion of stone carvings in the Israeli Negev Desert - this was discovered by an international research team around Katja Sterflinger and Laura Rabbachin from the Institute of Natural Sciences and Technology in the Art (INTK), Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

  • Congratulations: Paula Maya Strunden and Sophia Rohwetter awarded for their theses

    The Award for Scientific Works 2023/24 is awarded to Paula Maya Strunden for her dissertation (IKA). The Honorary Award goes to Sophia Rohwetter for her dissertation (MA in Critical Studies).

  • Stefanie Wuschitz and Patrícia Reis nominated for the S+T+ARTS Prize

    Stefanie Wuschitz (Institute for Education in the Arts) and Patrícia Reis were nominated this year for the prestigious S+T+ARTS Prize. Their project Clay PCB: Eco-Feminist Decolonial Hardware is one of the artist-based outcomes of the PEEK Project (AR580) Feminist Hacking: Building Circuits as an Artistic Practice hosted by the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

  • Award winners 2023/24

    For the academic year 2023/24, the Academy will award the following prizes to distinguished graduates and students:

  • First UNIQA Art Prize 2024 goes to Emma Hummerhielm Carlén

    In cooperation with UNIQA, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is awarding the UNIQA Art Prize, which is endowed with 15.000 Euro, for the first time. This makes it one of the most highly endowed prizes for young artists in Austria. It goes to Emma Hummerhielm Carlén, a sculptor who is able to explore spaces in an extremely differentiated way and who convinced the jury members with her formally precise, minimal and powerful works. The prizewinner's exhibition will open in February 2025 in the foyer of the UNIQA Tower in Vienna.

  • The Competition of Competitions: Summer School 2024

    The Summer School will take place from September 5 to 8, 2024 in cooperation with the University of Applied Arts Vienna and the Vienna University of Technology.

  • The Theodor-Körner-Preis goes to Rebecca Merlic and Vik Bayer

    Two alumni of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Rebecca Merlic and Vik Bayer, were awarded the Theodor Körner Prize 2023. The award ceremony took place on June 13, 2024.

    The University Library of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna also offers all services in summer. 

  • Christian Kravagna curates exhibition at mumok

    Christian Kravagna (Institute for Art Theory and Cultural Studies) is currently curating the exhibition Avant-Garde and Liberation at mumok.

  • Art in Building Competition BUWOG x Akbild

    The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, together with BUWOG, is launching an art-in-building competition.

  • The Academy mourns the death of Sinan Gültekin (1960 - 2024)

    The Academy announces with great regret that Sinan Gültekin passed away in Vienna on June 8, 2024 at the age of 64. Gültekin studied to become a teacher of artistic subjects at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1985 to 1991. Since 2000 he has been a member of the Institute for Education in the Arts.

  • FID Marseille: World premiere for a film by Constanze Ruhm

    Constanze Ruhm's new film will have its world premiere at the FID - Marseille International Film Festival from June 25th to 30th, 2024. Constanze Ruhm is a professor in the Studio for Art and Time | Media at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
