Lecture by Michaela Eichwald on the occasion of the prolongation of her professorship
At the end of the positively decided procedure for the extension of her contract, Michaela Eichwald will present her ideas and plans for her current and future professional activities at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
Since March 2021, Michaela Eichwald has been Professor of Art and Image | Abstraction at the Institute of Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Solo exhibitions by the artist have recently been shown at the Lenbachhaus in Munich, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Neue Galerie Gladbeck, the Kunsthalle Basel, and Reena Spaulings New York.

Joint exhibition with AVU and ÖKF in Prague
The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is delighted to present the exhibition Margins of the Visible this fall, together with the Academy of Fine Arts Prague, the Austrian Cultural Forum Prague, and the BMWKMS. Following a successful Erasmus+ exchange of staff from the two universities in May of this year, the exhibition represents a further step in this close collaboration.

Ashley Hans Scheirl: Exhibition opens at Belvedere 21
The exhibition In & Out of Painting* will be on view at Belvedere 21 from September 18. This major exhibition spans the 1970s to the present day, featuring new works produced specifically for the exhibition. From 2006 to 2022, Ashley Hans Scheirl held a professorship for contextual painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. -
Theatrical release of Sugarland: Award-winning film by an Academy graduate
Sugarland, a film by Isabella Brunäcker, is currently being releasedin cinemas. Brunäcker is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. In 2019, she received the Birgit Jürgenssen Prize. Fro Sugarland, she was awarded the Kodak Analog Film Prize at Diagonale 2025.

SPOT Exchange: New Residency in Riga, Latvia
We are excited to introduce SPOT Exchange; a new initiative aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and Latvia’s academic and non-academic art institutions. SPOT Exchange is a residency program dedicated to supporting the professional development of emerging artists and curators from both countries. By bridging higher education with professional practice, the program connects participants to new networks, artistic communities, and career opportunities.

Residency in Cairo: Thoughts on an unfamiliar city
Benedikt Werth spent two months as an artist-in-residence in Cairo, Egypt. In collaboration with the Austrian Cultural Forum Cairo (ACF), the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, and the Federal Ministry for Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport, the residency in Cairo was advertised for graduates of the Academy.
