Cost explosion due to price increase at Austria's universities
At this point, the Rectorate of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna vehemently points out the urgent need for additional financing of the Austrian universities. Since the beginning of the drastic price increases, the Academy has also been waiting for a clear signal from the Ministry to cover the additional costs of maintaining a functioning university. We do not want to leave the current situation without comment and inform members of the Academy as well as the wider public about the drastic nature of the situation.

New from the start of the semester: Corporate Sound by Luisali Theisen
After a student competition in cooperation with the Sound labor under the direction of Franz Pomassl, the concept of Luisali Theisen convinced the jury the most for a corporate sound, which was announced in connection with the new visual appearance of the Academy for various digital applications.

Congratulations: Tizza Covi awarded in Venice
Tizza Covi will take over the professorship of art and film from October 2022. The Austrian film Vera by the Vienna-based directing duo Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel has won two awards in the Orizzonti supporting track at the 79th Venice Film Festival. The film received the award for best director.

Ruth Sonderegger receives funding for research project from the Volkswagen Foundation
In the first round of calls for proposals for the funding initiative "Aufbruch - Neue Forschungsräume für die Geistes- und Kulturwissenschaften," the Board of Trustees of the Volkswagen Foundation approved nine projects out of 196 applications received, with total funding of 2.6 million euros.
